I've only replaced the upper pulley, the one closest to the firewall on the passengers side. Once I figured out how to do it, it was a 10 minute job. I paid ~$35 at the dealer for the pulley, a Saabnet sponsor might have it cheaper.
Tools:
*appropriate ratchet and socket for nut on the pulley hub
*1/2" socket extension, approx 10" long
*screwdriver or ~1/4" (don't quote me on this number) drill bit
*new pulley
Locate the pulley and study the base/bracket that it's mounted to. Note the square indentation in the bracket, the "ear" with a hole in the bracket and a matching ear on the base of the bracket. You'll want to place the socket extension in the square hole and pull back to release tension on the acc'y belt. Pull far enough to line up the hole on the pulley side of the bracket with the hole on the base side, slide the drill bit or screwdriver through the two holes to hold the pulley in the "release tension" position. There should now be no load on the pulley due to the belt. Unbolt the single bolt from the pulley hub and replace the pulley. A drop of locktite blue might not be a bad idea here. Now is the time to change the serpentine belt if you want to. Be careful and note exactly where the belt routes. Once the new or old belt is back in place on the idler pulley, pull back on your lever (socket ext.), remove the screwdriver and gently apply tension back to the acc'y belt. Fire the car up and verify belt and pulley alignment before driving.
