TG, I think that I recall you once mentioning that engine oil could pick up fuel components. Re the fact that the amount of oil in the sump when changing the oil, might not be indicative of little or no oil consumption if it apears to be undepleated.
I have been thinking about this. For a long time I concluded that the fuel would be totally boiled off and take an exit via the crankcase ventilation. With mostly highway miles and a good long heat run each time, scavenging of the fuel in this manner would be a reasonable expectation.
But I used some gasoline to clean something, and left a small open tin out to evaporate. Much of this fuel never did evaporate. I know that the new fuels have been designed to reduce vapor pressure to reduce emissions etc.
So what do you know about fuel dilution in turbo charged engines in street service. Is this a serious concern, or a techical possibility? If there is problem, then does this not challenge extended oil change intervals, IE things like Amsoil 1 year change intervals?
I have noticed that the sythetic oil that I used does seem to pick up a fuel like odor. But that might not require much fuel to produce a scent.
Are there concerns with fuel contamination of the oil, other than on the properties of the oil itself?
I know that these are tall questions, but we might have some others jumping in with some ideas.
