Rear main seal leak...will it drip or go catastrophic ?

I have a 95 900s 5 speed with 54K and I just noticed a very slow oil drip from where the tranny meets the engine (about 1-2 drops / day). I'm figuring the real main seal is leaking. I don't think it is the gearbox since I put the Saab synthetic in at 35K and as I recall that stuff is red and the drip is motor oil color (golden-brown).
I'm hoping to put up with the drip until it makes sense to go in there for something else like a clutch job or it gets to be too much.
Anyone had this trouble or have comment ?
Is it true the clutches in the NG's last much less than the older cars ? (like an 1983 900T). I have heard that some folks need them at about 65K even though they have had other clutches last much longer.
...and yes, I know the clutch cable (a.k.a. string) is toast and I should replace it as a preventative matter.
Thanks,
Mike
