Till now the dollars were minimal. Saab sports muffler, driven by a rusted resonator, removed the turbo compressor discharge silencer, K&N filter, modified air box, modified throttle body transition casting, a must-do on 94-99 model years.
Hallman Boost Controller, $95 delivered gets close to 15 PSI of boost, and wicked spool up. Great cost benefit ratio. Definately not as good as an Abbott modfied ECU.
Good perforamnce tires of course.
Added a piston type bypass valve and another type of boost valve to replace the HBC for $298. Wife looked at the Visa bill and thought that it was more than she expected for TurboTax software! :)
The Abbott rescue kit is $817.25 from Abbott America + shipping, and it will cost about $250 to $300 for a dealer install. Perhaps cheaper at an independent mechanic. You could do part of the install your self. My steering was starting to suck bad time, so this upgrade while excessive is to some extent a needed repair. If the four rubbber bushings were replaced with Saab parts, the labour would have been about the same.
I also replace the two plastic idler wheels as preventative maintenance.
