Hi, Alex.
I can't help you with your problem, but I can let you know that you're not the only one experiencing the problems associated with owning a Saab. I don't mean to dis any of the great folks on this site who love their cars and provide incredibly valuable information to other Saab owners, but mine has been nothing short of a major disappointment -- and a financial nightmare.
I drive a '95 900se (V-6). The printout of my maintenance work at the dealership's mechanic is longer than I am tall. The list seems endless, but I'll fill you in on a few:
-a/c condensor
-timing belt
-wiper sprayers
-ignition cassette
-LED display panel
-sunroof switch
-emergency break
These have been far from cheap fixes. Nor did I expect them to be. But I certainly didn't expect them to be as high as they've been. And that's just a FEW of the problems I've experienced. Granted, folks will tell you that a car like this is bound to have things go wrong. The problem is, though, it costs a FORTUNE to keep these fixed. And I'm not talking about routine maintenance. I'm talking about things that just plain BREAK. And mine has less than 100k! For a car that cost $28,000 new, it ought to go a little farther than 95,000 miles after just six years. I, too, worry: what's next?
The simple fact is, some Saabs drive like a charm for years without major repairs (my boyfriend had an early '80s model that he dearly loved) -- some (and the '94s to '98s are the worst, I've found) are just plain lemons. But I've come to the conclusion that if I'm going to have to sell the farm to keep my butt behind the wheel of this money vacuum, then I've earned the right to bitch about it.
I'm sure this isn't the news you wanted to hear. Sorry about that. But sometimes it's a little easier knowing you're not the only one suffering.
Good luck to you.
