Yes, I found this to be true too! I just took my 1996 900set to the guy who's the tech for the Aspen police dept.(supposedly) I had him replace the front and rear seals and I decided with the cost of r/r I'd have the clutch, t/o bearing, plate, seals, etc replaced. I knew that the clutch probably had to still be in good shape since it only had 38k mi on it. I had to take it to him 100 miles away from where I live to get all of this done by the way! I picked up the car today and dropped him $1,000. As I was walking out the door he said ".. by the way, you'll find the petal alot easier to push but I'm concerned that the cable is going bad..". I said "well, should you replace it" and he said that it would be 4 hours and quite a job... on and on. I finally took my kids and got in the car and left after my ride had already left me long behind, since I thought everything was ready to go, and he'd said so on the phone that morning.
... Got back to my town and lo'n behold, the clutch wouldn't disengage. Imagine that! I fortunitly got back to my house in 2nd gear, tore the fuse box out to look at what was going on.. apparently the cable had been twisted just right so the vibration caused the end to finally vibrate around to the point where the clutch wouldn't disengage.. HUMM.. how about that, I also found 2 sensors not plugged in. NICE JOB S.A.A.B. By the way, the adjustment seems to working fine now. What highway robbery. I'm (by another mechanic here locally) taking it down tomorrow to see if my clutch was even replaced . If it isn't I'm going to make sure it makes the paper and small claims court. I'll keep you informed. Are all mechanics like this? humm How could this guy let me leave or even come all the way up there taking a chance of being stranded in a storm with my 2 kids along. What a jerk!
