lowering convertible--stiffness & body torque?

Howdy y'all... I have a 97 900 Talladega convertible. Riding the stock suspension with 17" rims (225/40/17). I'd like to lower the ride just a tad. So two questions:
1. Are the stock shocks (assuming good condition) good enough to handle a lowered ride with (17s)?
2. With the stiff ride of 17" rims and lowering springs, will there be lots more torque on the body of the convertible?? Noticeable? Is this bad?
Thanks a bundle. Paul
