Removing the 'haze' from c900 headlights. Glass polish?

Hey all...
I just got some great advice from a buddy on how to remove the haze from the rear c900 brake lights. He showed me his, and they are totally shiny. They actually look better than the brand new ones I've seen. No more foggy lenses. He took 1200 grit sandpaper and wet sanded the lenses down, then used a big buffing wheel with some polishing cream at his shop, and man... WOW. You can see your face in the reflection. When I get my car back from my mechanic, I'm doing the same thing, and I want the headlights to be up to par as well... the only thing is, they're not plastic.
My headlights look very foggy, which they should since they're about 13 years old. I want them to match the brand new shiny clear corners I just put on. There is such a drastic different. You can't even see inside the headlights they're so hazy.
Would some regular glass polish work? I've never actually used the stuff before, so I don't know what I'm really getting into. Is it just like waxing? Rub it on, then wipe it off? Will I be getting the results I'm after?
Thanks for the help!
