What you are seeing are the buffer holograms left from the rotary polisher. It's almost impossible to avoid them when using a machine like this. When I detail a car I know I'm going to have to use the orbital polisher to remove the hologramming and get the paint perfect.
The wax is filling the micro-scratches but is not removing them. You could use a glaze which will fill them in and hide them, but it's best to remove them completely and for that you'll need the orbitial/DA.
Most serious car detail nuts use the Porter Cable 7424 and it's variants. The 7336 (same machine) is sold at Lowes for about $100. With a backing plate and some pads (if you need them) you can get started for under $200. This machine combined with the rotary will allow you to polish paint to perfection.
