I was confused by all the different products/pads/etc. and finally pulled the trigger and bought the porter cable 7424 and pad kit from http://www.properautocare.com. Then:
1. washed my black 2000 9.5 with Dawn dish detergent
2.clayed the car with zaino claybar
3.rewashed with dawn
4.used the pc 7424 with menzerna intensive polish to remove the swirls.
this was fun and scary- but now know no reason to be afraid. This combo is great.
5. Used zaino polih lock and 1 coat of zaino Z-5 polish. Car looked better than new and it had a lot of water spots and even more swirls. All it took was time. I did it in two sessions, splitting it at step 4-5 above. Totat time was 6 hours incuding 1 hour drying time for z-5 drying time.
results are awesome, black cars are the hardest to make flawless and this 5 year old car looks great.
