The Mothers wax would be used instead of NXT in your regimen. The Mothers product has a little more cleaning power and may not last as long as NXT but its a nice, easy to use wax. Give it a spin on a small area to see if you like it.
For scratches and stuff, try Meguiars Scratch X or Mothers Scratch Remover on those isolated spots. Might take a couple of applications to remove or reduce the damage. I would not recommend a compound if you work by hand; most compounds are better suited for machine use.
Good luck!
