You mention "The ones taking on the loss are the dealers. The only thing this will do is sink the small dealers, who don't have the volume sales that some of the bigger dealers do. I can't see the company as a whole losing out."
Why on Earth would a dealer want to sell cars at a loss? Dealers are in business to make money so its obvious GM(Saab)is subsidizing each and every sale that a dealer makes by taking a hit on each car sold. My understanding is that Saab is losing US$4000 on every single car they sell worldwide. The math is there on the internet, just take the company losses divided by the total number of cars sold in 2002 and voila, you get close to US$4000.
"Did you really get a feeling of lack of quality when you shut the door on the 9-3SS?"
The driver side window was all the way down and it sounded cheap but maybe it would "thunk" to a close when the window was up. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the new 9-3SS and the way it drives but those initial impressions are very important.
"I can only see good things providing Saab keeps the quality of the new models on par with the 9-5 and 9-3SS......."
This is my worry, badge engineered cars are usually crappy!
"......don't forget the 9-3 convertible......"
How could I, its bloody gorgeous - with a question mark hanging over the rear styling!?!?! I think this car will help a fair bit with the bottom-line.
PLEASE PLEASE dont get me wrong, I adore Saab and have done so for close to 20years. It just seems that the brand is losing its place in the market to stronger competitors and that is sad and I tend to blame the company in charge of marketing/advertising.
