I found myself in Myrtle over Memorial Day in 1998 or 1999. I had no idea what BBW was or that it was that weekend. Anyway, from what I saw, it goes both ways. We were walking down the street trying to find a place to have a beer. The streets were lined by people - lots of people - and we found some bar. I expected it to be packed. We step inside and it was a ghost town. There were perhaps 4 people in the place. Beer on sale for 50C a glass or something. Ass-blistering hot outside. Perplexed, I asked why there wasn't anybody in there, and the bartender stated that "they think it's a 'white' place and won't come inside". I thought that was pretty dumb, since they were selling beer. That was my experience. I can understand shutting down if A: those in town aren't going to patronize your establishment even when you're open, and B: if your regular customers can't/won't venture through that traffic/crowd to your place.
It IS SC and I am afraid that old ideas - racist idiocy - are still very prevalent.
That was my experience. Wouldn't go anywhere for another bike related event again. White or black. Crowds are scary.
