In general you can test the resistance across the contacts with the coil energized and de-energized. It should read 0 and infinite based on being normally open or normally closed. If the thing works intermittantly you may want to open it up an see if the contacts are oxidized. perhaps a little scotchbrite would clean 'em up.
Here's the tricky part.
1. putting 12V to the coil (not too big of a problem)
2. is it a time delay relay, or some other sort of thing.
the AC delay relay that failed in my C900 had all kinds of crap in it (chips, caps, resistors, etc), and a trace lifted from the circuit board. Bottom line, how do you know how a non standard (not just coil and contacts) relay should act if working 100%?
