Take for example, two of the highest performance natually aspirated pony cars of late. I got these figures from edmunds.com (keep in mind, that there is a Z28 SS that makes 320hp for this year and I'm not sure of the torque numbers). So, if you look at these numbers, I don't see an overall advantage of one over the others for these engine configurations, do you? Also, keep in mind that now, Chevy, makes a 405hp version of this engine in the Corvette and Ford added a S/C to the engine to make 390hp in the Mustang. So after 60 or more years, we haven't reached a ceiling for the pushrod configurations and after almost 100 years, the DOHC hasn't either. Neither one has been a technical leap over the other. Having said all of this, I think it depends on what you want out of a V configuration, but in an inline engine, DOHC makes sense.
