All,
My '89 jag VDP was rear-ended by a hit & run about 6 weeks ago. We were given the option of having the local Jag dealers' shop repair the damage; straight hit into the rear by an SUV. Both fenders, trunk lid all lights, etc. BTW, this dealership is huge: ford, subaru, jag, SAAB, audi, porche. in three major cities.
The shop has has the car for 5 weeks now. Twice we have been told the car was ready. each time, when we arrived the car was in terrible shape.
Trip #1 the paint was covered w crow-feet (painter said "I knew it would do that before I painted it"), trim hardware was installed properly, wrong tail lights, inside of the trunk not painted/cleaned, over spray, etc. (they said they couldn't get into the trunk to fix everything because the hit the valet lock, could've called me?) We said NO, fix it right.
Trip #2 crows-feet are gone, over spray is worse, masking tape on tail light lenses UNDER the chrome trim, still the wrong lights (mgr said they weren't available anymore, BULL; I found them on the net in 10 minutes), trim pieces not put on right/loose, right bunmper extention now flopping in the wind, trunk lining loose and the hardware missing (shop mgr said the hardware was never there), etc. The body shop mgr was also raising H*** & waving arms about how he was loosing a ton of money on the job, and went storming into his office.
We went over to the service mgr for the entire dealership and stated our complaints. Got a reasonable response. We went home, documented all the probs on both trips, got the part numbers & source for the correct lights, faxed the whole pile over to the service mgr, and called him to go over the list line by line. Next day we got a call from him stating that the paint probs were being corrected as we spoke, the broken bumper extension was delayed by the power outage, and that the trim hardware was being attached correctly. No mention of the light assemblies, and no time line for completion. We we left w/o a "warm fuzzy" feeling about the matter.
Now the question for anyone knowledgable in the area: IF on the 3rd trip the car isn't satisfactory I intend to pull the car from the lot and take it home toa await developments. I realize that they can put a "mechanics lien" on the car, (no I haven't given them any money) what else can they do?, and what other recourse do I have? I will be going to the owner of the dealership next of course, but what else?
rent a roadside bill board to complain?
call a TV station in for "consimer problem" disclosure?
all in all VERY frustrating.
TIA to any and all
