But seriously, as a bit of a bicycle nut (at least as much as an out-of-shape guy can be) I've been interested in the development of ever-better composite bike frames.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I've always found it odd that the "carbon fiber" designation on frames does not always disclose the fiber to resin ratio, or much of anything else about the carbon fiber used in the frame. Trek has done an OK job of getting people used to looking for low void and particular fiber alignments and composite ratios for paricular levels of brittleness vs give, but there even with them, the lack of disclosure and/or standards persists.

Now cyclists are kinda like Saab owners (many are both) in that they like to geek out a fair amount about the subtle and techie details of cool gear. I figure if the average Saaber or cyclist is somewhat ignorant about the composites, the probable level of ignorance suffered by carbon-is-neato consumers must be astronomical. (I've actually heard a particularly insipid carbon-based life form defend his carbon-fiber dash treatment as "organic," without any sense of irony. Boy, Bimmer will never get his business with that CRP designation!")

Anyway, thanks to Frozen for 'keeping the sticks moving' - that is moving the cutting edge of cool technology along as people like me gradually familiarize themselves with the area nearer the trailing edge.
