Tarantino movies, more than any others I can currently recall, have this ability to stick in the forefront of your mind - a scene, with accompanying dialogue and/or music, will just seep into your consciousness in the middle of work. It's a lot like what happens for the next few days after going to a great museum exhibition - there's a kind of pleasure as your mind struggles to recreate what it experienced upon viewing something wonderful.
On the Matrix theme: I had the distinct impression that the movies were not originally conceived as a trilogy, even though I remember the trilogy buzz when the first movie came out. I thought I detected a whiff of committee-think as Revolutions progressed.
At present, I am quite convinced that the Matrix series will not age well. While the first Matrix drew buzz away from what was the weakest installment in the Star Wars franchise, I think Lucas's vision will continue to be THE high water mark for sci-fi movies that transcend the genre. There's just not enough 'there' there in the Wachowskis creation.
On the other hand, I could just be feeling little let down.
Maybe I'll just wait six months for someone to convince me that a Matrix marathon will yield something worthwhile.
