It is shorter and you can drive faster. Take I94 and travel the bottom of Michigan. Speed limit is 70 mph (most Michiganders travel at 75 - 80 pmh and cops don't bother you unless you are really unlucky). And you don't have to pay toll. (Although you need to pay toll going across the bridge to Canada). There are LOTS of cops in Ohio and speed limit is only 65 mph. And you'd better drive 65, otherwise... Just avoid hitting Detroit traffic between 4pm and 7pm, although traffic is NOT that bad. Then in Canada, you can cruise pretty fast and it is pretty much a straight shot. You just have to watch the signs when you hit QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way). Just go towards Niagara Falls. Also, if you have the time, stop by at the Falls. Nice scenary. If you drive through Penn, roads are little twisty and you will see some dead deer lying around. If you are really unlucky, you may even hit one. There are not many 'big' cities to stop. Also, Penn is LOOONNNG. I think it takes 6 or 7 hours to cross it. My vote is the MI--> Canada --> NY.
Have a fun trip. I'm going out there next week to pick up an '97 Aero. Woohoo!
