Atherton CA - Richest Community in US.... Many years, this small bedroom community is rated as the richest community in the US. It houses both our Silicon Valley Start Up millionaires as well as many 49er's, Giants, and A's players. There's a lot of money in Atherton, but it is a bedroom community with no downtown, no reason to got there to spend money, no business taxes. They are always mired in budget problems which is shocking despite how rich everyone there is. Now, I have no problem with rich people. Hell, I'd love to be a rich person. The problem I have is that the police force has nothing to do inside the community and since nobody but residents drive into the community to go home to their multi-million dollar homes, the Atherton police spend 90%+ of their time patrolling their border streets ticketing folks who pass through the border and shared border streets. The absolute most disgusting abuse is the 30 meters of road that passes from Marsh Rd in Menlo Park to Middlefield Rd in Redwood City, a primarily hispanic/latino community. They are constantly pulling over the hispance/latino population that uses that 30 meter stretch of shared Atherton Rd, especially the pick up trucks and other small trucks... Anway, I'm sick of it. I think it's a disgusting abuse. Police do honorable work - some of the most honorable work ever - this is not honorable work. It is the basest, most humiliating work I could imagine a police officer doing... I just can't understand why the force puts up with being told to do this and maybe they need someone like me to point out and give the force something to point to to get their superiors to cut out this BS.
