I don't expect that any car company would offer a possible mechanical explanation for any crash, since they weren't there to see it, and such an explanation could be used against them in court. There could be several reasons, and it may have been the combination of more than one reason.
The car did protect well though! That's a big reason for having a Saab. I feel much better about my wife driving a 9-5 compared to a Celica.
You've got a lot going on. Wish you well with all the family and time and financial issues you're dealing with all at once. Prioritize what's important and organize things where you can, don't get distracted. Keep chipping away. Things will improve. Maybe when the pace slows down in the future, you could do a driving school to see the fun and safe application of swerving cars instead of the bad and unpleasant.
