Unthinkable happened last night

Security security security...that was the thoughts I've never really given too much meaning in my not so short life in NYC until last night. My roadbike and my fiancee's were stolen right in our driveway. They were on top of my saab both in the saab bike mount (the one that mounts with the wheels on) securely locked I thought, ready for possibly the final night biking this year. We were going to ride before dinner, but dinner was ready earlier than we thought so we dicided to wait until after dinner. During the less than an hour of our dinner time, they were stolen literally right in front of our eyes since our kitchen is pretty much next to the driveway. But the blinds were down and closed. I mounted them before dinner and thought nothing could possibly happen in our driveway while we were eating. That thread of trust in the community has vanished, or that thread of my relaxed stupidity has tightened up. We reported to the police but obviously nothing much could be done.
I just wanted to share my sadness for the quick end of our first decent roadbike ownership and how insecure the locked bike mount can be while out of sight. Be careful with your bikes fellow saabers. -.-
