I find these comments about Saabs being unreliable to be laughable, especially because with minimal maintenance most of these cars will run more than 200k. I'm on my 7th Saab, a 96 9000 CS that I purchased new and that now has 140k on the odometer. The car runs better now than when it was new. I believe in regular oil changes (3-5 k miles) and fixing things when they break down. In the 8 years I've owned the car I can't recall any "nickel-dime" problems, but I have replaced the brakes and rotors at least once, and the exhaust system once. The clutch is still original as are all suspension parts. When these start to go, I'll gladly spend the few hundred dollars (or more in the case of the clutch) to keep this car running.

I just completed a 2500 mile road trip from MA to SC and back and the only problem I had was that the cabin sensor unit of the ACC finally started whining full time. For $65 from eeuroparts.com I did the 5 min repair and it's as good as new. It's not likely that I'll have to repair that part again.

I also have a 92 900S with >150k which I bought when it had 140k. It runs strong and gets regular maintenance. The 86 900 T that I had prior to these 2 vehicles was purchased with 70 k on it and had more than 270k on it when I sold it (I don't know the exact mileage because the odometer had quit at 270k). When I sold it, it had recent brake pad and rotors, a relatively new clutch, new radiator, and ran well. Unfortunately new owner failed to keep up with regular maintenance and the car was history within a year. A very sad story.

Anyway, the Saabs that I have owned have been well engineered machines that perform well for extended lifespans if properly cared for.
