How do you define a "best engine"? Does cost matter?
Ordinary dude cannot compare engines because very few have a research lab in their garage, or technical knowhow about metallurgy.
But I'm pretty sure that Saab's Trionic8 is most advanced engine management system in normal commercial sector.
Looking wankel engine fuel/torque levels its clear it cannot compete with turbo engines.
And its also clear that n.a engines are thing of the past.
BMW has said that they will move to turbos soon as they eliminate all lag.
Merc has said that compressor(supercharge) engines were mistake and they will eventually move to turbos that are better.
Competition is coming, Saab has to stay alert. Sure they have a patent claims, for example invention that would save maybe 30% fuel use in high engine load.
But does GM feed enough money to Saab? We only know that GM does not allow Saab to make totally new radical engines like SVC.
But back to bisnes, how you rate things like, cost, miles per gallon, power, torque and durability will in the end give some sort of result.
Durability is one of the most important factors but also the most diffucult to study.
Add certain cost multiplier to that and...hmm Lada?
