question regarding entry into Canada

Hi, I have a friend who is coming up to Whistler in April. (I know we don't have any snow, but he booked it long time ago and it's not refundable.)
Anyway, he was planning on bringing his girl friend, but thru a grapevine, she heard that if you had DUI (I think going back for 10 years), you are not allowed into Canada. Is this true? If so, is there any way for her to enter into Canada other than hoping that she doesn't get checked? She is saying that she doesn't even want to come up (to Seattle and drive up with us) because she doesn't want to get embrassed...
Seems like that's crazy when that person with DUI is not even driving...
