An undergrad degree doesn;t differentiate you much these days. So many people have at least one master's.
I agree with some of the posts above that an ivy might not even be the best place for undergrads-- it's all about how you take advantage of what a school offers, and maybe a different school will be a better fit. I went to a school no one has heard of, and it was a great opportunity for people who took full advantage of it. Sadly, I did not.
Funny thing is, I do technically have a BA from Bard, which people have at least heard of.... but I've never been to Bard. My school was sort of taken over by it, but still seperate.
Really, though, no one has ever seemed to care where my BA is from. I think it will be a different story with the MS.
Oh.... I've also worked at Penn for a few years. And from what I've seen, a big part of being an ivy-league undergrad is forming groups which find elaborate ways to congratulate themselves on being wonderful enough to go to an ivy. No one needs that. Seriously, a lot of the kids are very talented and just do everything they try so well. A lot of them are perfectly ordinary. Most of them have a serious case of ivy league attitude (esp. the ordinary ones) and it's annoying. I don't think the grad students are as prone to that. I think the club attitude is based on where you did your undergrad. I also think that the people who really get into that are the least likely to do something interesting later. I suppose being a member of that club can open some doors to you, but the whole thing rubs me the wrong way.
