You may want to check out the Sterling/Ashburn area. Its on the Route 7 corridor and is relatively cheap. I'm a recent college grad and I may be moving out that way as I have friends who have found townhouses to share there for around $600 each. I may get flamed for saying this, but stay away from Prince William County, Prince Georges County, well pretty much anyplace other than Fairfax, Montgomery County, and the developing parts of Loudon County. Also, a lot of the housing you will find inside the beltway is older 1950s stuff which is a lot smaller. You may want to check out Leesburg also if you don't mind the drive. Its important to find out what high school is served by the area you're moving to as some are pretty ghetto and others are probably some of the best in the country. Other nice places in Fairfax- Oakton, Vienna, Reston (more expensive), lots of others.
