Having owned a 9-5 and now have a GMC Sierra, the 9-7 provides an interesting juxtaposition. There is certainly a GM truck look to the 9-7 but also a definite Saab look and feel. I think GM did a great job of blending the two "worlds", if you will. The 9-7 has a Saab feel to it on the road; much better steering and braking feel than a GM truck, a cozy but roomy interior, very high quality materials and fit & finish, a noticeably Saab-look dashboard with GM electronics (radio, DIC, stalks, etc).
On the road the 9-7 felt solid and quiet and stable. I got it up to 85+ and it was smooth and stable. My female test drive companion noted right away that it felt solid and stable; she was immediately confident in the 9-7's handling and road feel. It didn't feel trucky at all and I drive a truck every day. I've driven a variety of SUV's and the 9-7 may have the best feel of any one I've driven, especially the domestic SUV's.
I really think non-Saab people will be very impressed with the 9-7 but they've got to drive one. The Saab faithful will need to open their minds a bit to appreciate what GM has done to the GMT360 platform. It's a very nice vehicle.
