Millenium is the best meal I've had in my life, bar none. Good call.
Food and drink in the bay area are great. Best vietnamese you'll probably ever have is at the Slanted Door. Book it now.
Chez Panisse in berkely is a world famous "foodie" joint. It's in berkeley, which can be reached by BART (subway). Again, book now.
If you make it to GG Park, go to the panhandle section and see the Botanical Gardens. It's been a hit with everyone I've taken there!
Although the ambiance is lacking, the food at Mariachi's (16th and Valencia) rocks. It's "slumming it", but it's possibly the best burrito you'll have in your life. You can good search these places and get debates about Mariachi's, Pancho Villa, Cancun, and many others. You can't go wrong with any of 'em.
Are you into late night bar hopping, the music scene, or that sort of thing? I could go on for quite while about that. You can check for events here:

A neat side trip for a jazz fan would be Yoshi's in Oakland's Jack London Square. Sushi and Jazz in a really neat part of Oakland.
I have many friends in the city without cars and they get around in the city just fine with bus, BART, tram, cable cars, and cabs. Getting to wine country and other places out of town does require a rental car, though.
Day trips to think about:
Napa or Sonoma Wine Tour (pack a picnic from Whole Foods or Trader Joes and go early, they close by 4 or 5)
Santa Cruz, Carmel, or Monterrey. I'd pick SC, but that's my take.
Santa Cruz Mountains Wine tour (like the Bay Area SAAB Club, but early in the year and without the line of SAABs. Be sure to go to Bonny Doon!
Don't forget to drink an Anchor Steam beer!
