So, the auto-makers give the consumers what they want.
An early 90s vintage automobile would not meet the latest emissions regulations,
get fewer miles to the gallon and may not even have a CD player.
Also, newer car designs have to meet ever increasing numbers of
constrainsts. So, building a car like a brick sh*t house might not allow
the automaker to meet fuel economy, emissions standards while providing
the amount of horsepower that the consumer has come to expect.
