Tips for driving a [Saab] manual transmission?

Since obtaining my license, I have only driven Saabs with manual transmissions ('89 900, '90 9000, '95 9000, '01 9-3). When I switched from the '95 9000 Aero to my current '01 9-3, I found the clutch to be substantially easier and the shifting much smoother. After driving the car for 1 year, 15k miles, I'm becoming very frustrated. While I've refined my technique and developed my leg muscles over the years, I find myself (specifically my left leg) completely exhausted after only a 20-30 minutes in moderate traffic. The time to switch gears can easily be measured in seconds without jamming it in there. It seems like it gets more difficult everyday.
Is this normal? What should I expect? Are there steps to take to make shifting easier? Thanks.
