we have WiFi for the computers (3 about to add a 4th, maybe 5th) and we got a 24" Toshiba flat-screen TV last Christmas to replace an awful RCA that was only 5 years old. The Toshiba was top-rated in Condemmer Reports and had better picture quality than the Sony it was next to at Best Buy. Prior to the RCA we had a small color TV for 10 years. The Toshiba is great. Good color and picture, and supposedly very reliable. Have heard from friends that Sonys are great but seem to need repair more often than other brands. I think the Toshiba was about $350. Got a Panasonic DVD/VCR combo deck to go with it.
I would have liked a wide-screen, but all the electronics live in an armoire and that was the biggest TV that could fit. Plus a wide screen is more than I care to spend on a TV. In a few years when all TVs are wide-screen, we'll replace the Toshiba. By then the prices will be reasonable. In my mind, the most exotic home theatre system is worth $500, maybe a grand. I appreciate the difference it all makes, but I just don't care about it.
