I was always under the impression that generally, the larger the engine volume, the lower the frequency of the torque peak. I guess that's not so! I am certainly aware how adding a turbo dramatically lowers the torque peak, but wow, I wouldn't have guessed 4500 rpm for peak in a V8!
One of the reasons I really like my Suzuki Aerio 2.3l 4 cyl. is that it's torque peak is at 3000 rpm, which is the exact same as my Saab 9000. Of course it's considerably less torque, especially since the Saab has been modified. But, the Suzuki pulls better than any other 4 cylinder I have driven under 3000 rpm - even better than the Saab under 2500 rpm.
Ever since I got my Saab, after a Honda and a Datsun (older), I'm a huge fan of having the torque peak at a useable rpm! Now I can understand what a Saab 2.3l turbo with Trionic must be like - better than the low end response of my Suzuki, with the high end response of my Saab, sounds like a perfect match.
