The early 90's 900's thru the 9000's have a fuel cut off on deceleration when in gear. Many other cars have this also. At speeds above about 45 MPH if you take your foot off the gas while the car is in gear, fuel cut will occur until the engine RPM is just above 1500. To best utilize fuel cut, time deceleration to have the car drop out of fuel cut within easy braking distance of stops. The drop out from fuel cut can be felt as a slight bump as the fuel is turned back on. The 9000 transmission direct drive 4th gear allows this to work like a manual tranny in 4th or 5th gear. The EDU, displays 99 when in fuel cut. Fuel cut is infinate MPG, if you coast in neutral, the engine is idling and consuming a moderate amount of fuel overcoming pumping losses by acting like a big vacumm pump.
