I just grew up around a mom who was always researching these things and passing on little bits on information here and there, or head reading material on the subject laying around. Now, anyone with access to the internet can do their own research and come to their own conclusions. I don't really recommend a specific brand of vitamins or type of multivitamin. I do personally advise to stay away from the big brand names, such as Centrum, not because they are bad, but because they are seriously overpriced for what you get. I use the Rite Aid brand multi-vitamin, but I forget the actual name now. It's their 'low-end' multi-vitamin that comes in a reddish-orange bottle. They have a higher end that is called Multi-Source I think, which is also really good, but far more expensive. The one I get gives you 300 tablets for the price you'd pay for about 60-100 of Centrum. Ditto for vitamin-C, don't spend mega-bucks for it, the generic is just as effective as the expensive kind.
The reason I say at least a multi-vitamin and vitamin C, is that multi-vitamins tend to only have 100% of the USRDA (sometimes as high as 300-400 for certain ones), and that's not nearly enough vitamin C based on my research and experience. Plus, vitamin C is about the cheapest vitamin supplement you can buy.
