I use a combination of both Nevin and jeff in MD suggestion. I have an FM modulator connected between the antenna and stereo that will block the transmissions and give a clear signal to the stereo. I also wired in a manual switch to the antenna power so I can keep the antenna down while listening to the XM (victim of too much ice on antenna). I've only put the antenna up two or three times in the past 3 years since installing the XM. No need to listen to AM/FM anymore.
A direct connection to the stereo offers the best sound, but the stock stereo in my 9-3 doesn't have a direct connection.
