MP3s are just a digital recording format that most portable players can play, there are other formats, too. If you have a PC, you can rip your CDs to MP3 files, .wav files, .wma files, etc. depending on software used. You can then copy these files to an MP3 player, assuming the player supports whatever format you made on your PC, and play them. You can use an FM unit to play your portable unit through the car, which sometimes doesn't sound that great, or if you don't have the aux plug in your center console already (right next to the outlet), you can have a dealer install it, or get the parts on-line and install it yourself, though you'll have to have someone with a tech II enable the AUX port on the car stereo.
