It's helpful to have an expert opinion like turrbo's. I'd like to offer mine. I just can't say HOW I'm an expert.....

They were probably new, but also just clarifying the why OR attempting to discuss the 'spirit' of their guarantee. There are many folks who look to buy one $35 shirt and return it over and over for years. The person you spoke to my have been trying to "screen" for that. By all means, given what you said, the slippers s/b returnable. You can also e-mail llbean.com, try chat or call again. The suggestion to return with a clear letter as to what, why, etc will get you serviced as well. Try not to feel offended--they were probably trying to do their job, just not as well as they should. Quoting the Guarantee in your return is unnecessary too...
