Hello everyone, maybe you remember me from last September. when i bought the car. I was told that it had a blown head gasket, so I got it at a really great price ($1100.00) I found out after taking the heads off that the problem was (just) a leaking oil cooler. I sent the heads out to the shop to have them checked anyways, and was told a couple of the valves were pitted, but that was all they could find wrong with them. I bought a new oil cooler and after a very long winter listening to my wife saying "when ya gonna get that car out of the garage" I finally (with my son doing a lot of the work..thank you John) got the engine back together. This past Wednesday, I put the key in and cranked...and cranked...and cranked...nothin' nada. What the hell? Well after a lot of head scratching, we traced the problem to the fuel pump. I'm not sure if the long winter was the reason it didn't work, or (if the negative battery cable being loose was the cause..not sure, but after taking the back seat out, and banging on the fuel tank with a rubber mallott we could hear the fuel pump running. I started the car up, and lo and behold it ran! Mind you it didn't (and still isn't) running perfect, but I'm putting the car on the road today, knowing it may take as many as 40 starts for the computer to re learn.
The reason for this post is I want to update the cars status and to thank everyone for all their help. There is no way I could have or even would have attempted this without the help from all the good Saab owners on this site. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
And, If you're ever in Somers NY area, let me know and maybe you can stop by with your Saab and say hello.
Peace......Jim
