Oil change intervals and warm and fuzzy feeling

My current oil change interval is 15,000 miles with high quality Group IV
(PAO) oil, and I assure you that the engine has not blown up. To be sure,
and because I'm an oil nerd I send in used oil for oil analysis. And the
results always come back fine.
So, for those of you who stick with 3,000 mile oil change intervals with
really cheap oil, what would it take for you to not flush all that oil
and more importantly time down the drain (or dig a hole in the back yard
and pour it in)?
Oil Nerds of America beseech you to stop listening to your neighborhood
mechanic (not you Anders, you're cool) who replaces your starter,
alternator, battery and all the electrical cables every time you go in
to have your spark plugs replaced. That's how they can afford their
luxuries like custom flame paint jobs on their tricked out Camaros and
their blue-tooth headsets (which apparently entitle them to yell at the
top of their lungs _all_ of the time ... oh, no you don't look clueless).
The neighborhood crooked mechanic is not a rocket scientist and not
always honest (Again, there are honest mechanics like Anders). What
they tell you is not gospel.
Car manufacturers, Consumer Reports and oil nerds have been telling you
that extended oil change interval will not damage your car.
And if 3,000 oil change interval gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, may
I suggest that you make use of your seat heaters and get your self a
stuffed animal :-)
