Totally disagree about the HHR Posted by Caarma [Email] (#592) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Caarma) on Thu, 9 Oct 2008 07:37:13 In Reply to: I know why I drive Saabs...., Wasabi, Wed, 8 Oct 2008 20:40:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For the money, the HHR's materials aren't that bad and the fits are very good. I rented one in the Pheonix area and it was great to drive to Sedona and back through some hills. It has just enough torque, great fuel economy, and functionality. The ride and handling were fine too. I'm not sure what about the ergonomics bother you since it's pretty standard issue radio and HVAC controls. (Perhaps they sit a little low?) The new radios are great from a user interface perspective. I was one of many marketing people at GM who worked on that with the engineers. Knobs are the best because you can feel for them without looking. The tabbed presets which allow you to mix bands were a great idea, not sure exactly who thought of it.
And to show that I'm not completely biased, I rented a Sonata V6 for a while. It was pretty good overall. The plastics had a funny smell, but it was a pleasant cabin. Even with a V6, people used to turbos miss low end torque. The only thing missing from the car was some personality.
I still do like my Saabs better, but be realistic. For similar features, you pay a lot more than you would for a Chevy, Hyundai, or a Mazda.
