People have all kinds of different reasons not to buy a car. Some people don't buy German because of the war or because of the concentration camps. Others don't buy Japanese because of the Pearl Harbor bombing or because of savage torture inflicted on others. Still others might not buy Chinese because of the dispute between the Republic of China on Taiwan and the People's Republic of China.
As for Volvo, if Geely buys it, I will still consider Volvos for about 5 years then I will consider not considering it.
As for Saab, since the mainland Chinese (as opposed to Chinese in Taiwan) partner has a minority stake, I will still consider it for a longer period. However, Koenigsegg presented with low parts prices and pressure from a partner may transform Saab into a PRC brand. We'll see how it goes with Tata and Jaguar since they started earlier. The current 9-3 already has a few PRC parts (speakers).
I wonder where some other parts are made. I have been on a lookout in my own car and have seen countries like Taiwan (ROC), Japan, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Sweden, UK, France, etc. I haven't seen any U.S. yet.
