Logan Int'l airport also uses a Saab for a friction tester. They also use a newer one like the one you saw. Previously, they used a 900 with an auto trany.
I thought it was pretty neat, because it had less than 30k miles. When the newer one arrived, I inquired about purchasing, but I was informed it was part of the deal and was going to the dealer. Not sure if that's true or not, but at least it didn't go to the crusher.
If you "google" friction tester, there is a link to an interesting story about Saab and friction testing. It appears Saab may market the car and the "friction testing" ability as a package and perhaps this is the reason for Saabs as opposed to other models.
