I use 93 octane in my 9000 with an Aero ECU. While I can use regular 87 octane gas, and occasionally have, there is a big difference in boost/power when using 93, so much so that my car can tell me if the gas that I bought "measures up" by how much power it has (and displayed visually on the boost gauge if I stomp on it) - it's very noticeable. Example: on a recent day when it was pouring rain and I needed gas, I filled up with gas labeled as "93" at the mega grocery/discount/etc. big box store next door to my office complex; the car ran like poo until I filled it up with real 93 at my usual gas station the next week, car ran great again almost immediately.

I was tempted to complain to the management, but what was I going to get? 15 gallons x 20 cents per gallon difference = $3, not worth wasting my time going to their customer service department, telling my story, waiting for them to find the manager, retelling my story, etc. However, I will never use their gas again. Perhaps the "premium" gas that you tried wasn't really premium, or your car just isn't as picky as mine.
