Unless you get lower profile tires that match the exact or very close to the overall diameter of your 16" tires/rims, it's going to throw off your speedometer accuracy. The Tire Rack used to have an on-line chart that would give all the characteristics, including speedometer readings that you could do a comparison against, for rim sizes matched up with various tire sizes. I put lower profile tires on my new 9-5 combi when I bought it in 2006, and it showed the speedometer at around 3 mph faster than it should have. It was a nice cushion for those radar guns as I was actually driving slightly slower than the 5 mph over the speed limit that I normally drive.
