The Miata calculator seems to agree with my calculations if I assume the tire were perfectly rigid. 16" bead-diameter plus 55% of 215mm added onto the radius.
But when a flexible tire rolls it turns more revolutions than it would if the tire were perfectly rigid. 797 / 823 is about 97% which I don't know if that's out-of-line with reality. It depends a lot on how much power is being transmitted to the road. Of course under braking it would work the other way and move even farther per revolution. Confusing it one more way, our odometers aren't driven by the differential but they're driven by the ABS sensors in a rear (un-driven) wheel.
But I don't remember the published numbers (for example TireRack specs) being different than they were several years ago. I was wondering if we're not really comparing 2001 data with 2010 data, but rather we're comparing the rigid-tire calculations vs the flexible-tire data.
