Back in the day when there was the 900, 900S and 900 Turbo, we bought a new '84 C900 base model and had it for 20 years. That was when Saab had some of its strongest sales--we had to wait 4-5 weeks for our car. We cross-shopped Honda, Volvo and Nissan.
These days Saab needs only 2 or 3 car lines. For instance, each line could have a well-configured basic (NA) and upscale (turbo) model. They could be the planned Mini-size 9-2, a new 9-3 and the 9-5. A wagon is probably essential in the 9-3 and 9-5 lines. A hatch in the 9-2 and hopefully the 9-3 would make sense. We don't need a 9-4, which is mostly just a revised Chevy Equinox/Caddy CTS.
Just my 2 cents.
