We have the DC25 and, while small, it has tremendous suction. A few things extra things about it despite the obvious superior performance:
• price (look for sales)
• weight (it is not self-propelled and was heavier than expected ... one hand/wrist use takes some getting used to)
• capacity (the canister fill up quickly ... get used to many trips to the garbage can)
• works almost too well (the canister quickly becomes coated with a layer of fine silt ... this means disassembling the canister from the "vortex chamber" and washing or tapping out the fine powder. Also, if you have pets, [we have 2 birds] pet hair or, in our case, feathers get trapped in the perforated wall of the vortex chamber meaning more frequent disassembly of the canister for thorough cleaning)
All that said we would never use another vacuum, it's really quite remarkable. Dyson also makes a hand model that looks perfectly suited for the car. I have a small Metropolitan vacuum from Griot's and it works just fine fro the car so I won't be needing another one just yet.
HTH, good luck in your search. Cheers.
