I have one of the small ones and one of the large ones... I don't really like the small ones for lifting cars. They are not as stable as the large ones, and the low lifting height really becomes a PITA sometimes. On the Audi, the small one barely gets the front wheels off the ground at maximum lifting height. The 2.5 ton one does it all, including my Suburban and Fleetwood 75.
I've bought a few of each from Harbor Freight over the years - probably six of the small ones and three of the large ones. They do seem to have a high DOA rate, but when you get one that works they tend to work for a very long time. My small one is 7 years old, the large one three. I just test them in the parking lot under whatever I drove until I get a good one. :) I will say that QC has gone up dramatically over the years - maybe they got the formula right.
No regrets - as good as any jack I've seen or owned, and even the big 2.5 ton one is plenty light to carry around. I honestly can't imagine owning anything else.
FWIW, having two around is superb. I always use the large one for getting the car off the ground, but the small one is great for lifting suspension parts or holding heavy things in place. Along those lines, the other useful hydraulic tool is a transmission jack. The small one is a nice convenience for everything from actual transmissions (though not on c900!) to gas tanks.
