Where did I argue that "people driving around yakking on cell phones + fiddling with gps is a better simple explanation"?

I explicitly stated that continuous use of cellphone while driving and fiddling of GPS while driving are examples of abuse, not the judicious use that I was talking about.

Your theories that vehicles are dramatically safer in design flies in the face of your earlier argument that SUV's are less safe than cars! Vehicle sales mix in the past decade has changed to majority SUV's vs. majority cars in previous decades; i.e. according to your own earlier theory, people have been replacing older vehicles (cars) with newer less safe vehicles (SUV's).

The incremental improvements for in-car safety devices (aside from cellphones and GPS's, both of which you claim to be negative safety devices) have been nowhere nearly as significant as the invention of airbags, seat belts, door beams and crumple zones in the earlier decades. Yet, accident fatality has declined in the past decade at far greater rate than all previous decades.
